Design:

My name is Drew Appleton. I am a freelance graphic designer from Providence, Rhode Island with an eye for detail and a self motivated curiosity about the world around me.

I have a wide array of experience in design ranging from print & apparel to front end development for the web. I specialize in creating simple and unique designs with a clear message throughout. My websites are straightforward, intuitive and cleanly coded.

I was raised under the principle - "If you're going to do a job, do it right." I take a great deal of pride in my work and will see any job through to completion.

Background:

I grew up in southeastern New England in Westport, Massachusetts on a small farm, splitting time between playing in the dirt and tagging along as ballast for my dad on the sailboat.

After primarily focusing on fine arts throughout high school here in Providence at the Wheeler School, I attended Ithaca College where I received my Bachelor's degree in Sports Media with a minor in Marketing. I graduated in 2008 and was fortunate enough to find an opportunity combining my education with an undiminished passion for the arts, as Art Director at sports marketing company.

At the company, the staff of ten was primarily focused on sales and event operations while I had the unique position as the entry point and the sign off on all design company wide. This afforded me the ability to learn on the job while working directly with clients on print, branding/identity and web - seeing jobs through from initial market research all the way to client presentation. I am now proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign, HTML, CSS and have an active understanding of JavaScript and jQuery.

Life Beyond a Glowing Rectangle:

The arts and design have always been an integral part of my life and the world around me. But when not pushing pixels around a MacBook you will find me playing, watching or talking about sports. I play soccer, baseball, golf and enjoy running, biking and skiing. I invest an entirely unjustifiable amount of time rooting for Dustin Pedroia, Patrice Bergeron and Wes Welker.

I love the outdoors, hiking and traveling. I studied abroad in New Zealand and have traveled extensively since to South Africa, China, Thailand, Costa Rica, The Cook Islands, Quebec and Pawtucket.

Random Tidbits:

• I worked as a journalist at the Beijing Olympics.
• I attended the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
• I have hit a hole-in-one despite being a terrible golfer.
• I sailed from Bermuda to Rhode Island in 2012.
• I can wield an axe and shoot a bow quite respectably for someone not raised in the middle ages.
